It's still autumn here in Ireland and the countryside is looking particularly scenic at the moment.

Here, a colourful scene of fallen leaves, moss-covered rocks and flowing water - a sense of calm can be felt in this place.

The river flows, and after heavy recent rains the scene will have changed, leaves washed away and rocks moved, but the sense of calm will still remain.

While the season changes, and the seasons change places like this will always be of interest to the photographer.

From the coast to the mountains - a few weeks ago I headed to the coast for sunrise, the morning's forecast was for sunshine and a bright start to the day.

In reality it was dull and grey and there was no hint of a colourful sunrise.

I photographed and videoed at the Forty Foot in Dublin before making my way into the mountains.

Having checked the weather radar it looked like better weather was to be found away from Dublin.

I found the sunshine after a little rain and the morning got brighter and warmer. I stopped at a woodland stream to photograph some woodland colour and character.

Few autumn landscape scenes can be more alluring to the photographer than a woodland stream with waterfall.

Here in Tollymore, one of Northern Ireland's most scenic forest parks, these elements combine beautifully at the beginning of autumn as water falls between the stepping stones on the River Shimna under a canopy of bright green gently beginning to fade towards the reds, yellows and browns of autumn.

No wonder then that the producers of Game of Thrones, HBO, chose this location to film some of the famous TV show, Northern Ireland being home to most of the filming.

And no wonder it is a place that Panoramic Ireland visits often, when travel restarts why not join me at the famous forest park or along the coast of County Down close by.

After finishing today's photography workshop I took a few moments to photograph for myself at a small river and woodland in the Irish countryside.

Here I found a path through the woods, hence the title of this post - a walk in the park with sunshine and shadow.

I was reminded of this quote while admiring the scene in front of me:

“A path is made by walking on it.”

― Chuang Tzu

And what a fine day it has been, perfect for photography with some rainshowers but mostly sunshine and cloud with blue sky.

The mightiest tree in the forest, an Irish woodland.

A recent visit through an Irish woodland saw me find and photograph the mightiest tree in the forest, pictured here.

It can't be done, to cut down this tree with a herring - I thought to myself.

Well, I did find a shrubbery before finishing up on my quest to photograph this fine, green place.

Landscape and nature photography in Ireland doesn't stop just because it is winter.

Landscape photographers enjoy the winter just as much as any other season, there is always the chance of snow of course and the bright clear winter sunlight.

But even a woodland, with trees devoid of leaves can look fine in winter.

A woodland river flowing and swirling through the rocks under the tree canopy high above.

It just takes time, time for the action of the flowing water to finally erode the obstacles in its way, slowly carving a fine channel through even a tough, durable rock such as granite.

Beech trees fagus sylvatica are one of the finest trees to find in an Irish woodland.

This non-native species was introduced at some point in history, many centuries ago at least, and has become so widespread that it would appear to be a native Irish tree.

We're back to that time of year again, summer has ended and winter is on its way. For now it's colourful autumn.

Here in a gently sloping woodland, a small stream cuts a narrow path soon becoming a river but for now it's all gentle and pretty.

And of course it's colourful.

Photographing woodland streams and waterfalls in Ireland, the Irish countryside is filled with places like these.

During a cloudy afternoon, Panoramic Ireland headed into the mountains and found interesting scenes of sheep grazing in fields, cloudy mountain sides and into the woodlands to photograph streams, colour and waterfalls as seen here that suited the conditions.

Soon after the weather cleared, as it often does, the landscapes of the open countryside became more worthy of the photographer's attention and we headed into the interior of Ireland.
