Winter is a perfect time for photography in Ireland, there are stormy days and calm days like here in this image - days with bright golden sunshine.

The Mournes are one of my favourite places to photograph in Ireland, situated in County Down, about an hour south of Belfast; Slieve Donard, pictured here, reaches 850m above sea level and is the highest peak in the Irish province of Ulster.

The recent cold weather, icing over the roads and landscape of Ireland, has ended for now but winter is really only getting started.

Join me, Panoramic Ireland, in the winter months when Ireland is much more quiet, to photograph in the Mourne Mountains of County Down, or the Giant's Causeway, Belfast or Dublin.

Sometimes I get asked if the non-summer months, or at least October to March, are good for photography in Ireland.

And of course the answer is yes. The autumn, winter and spring months hold some fantastic clear light days, moody overcast conditions, fog, burst of colour and often storms.

These months also typically have fewer tourists around and so make a perfect time for landscape photography.

A case in point; travelling through Northern Ireland's Mourne Mountains in March I found this scene of large fields bounded by huge-granite-stone walls so typical of County Down, an old cottage the only sign of habitation here.

And in that field, an arrangement of sheep.

39 legs in all, if you count my two of course, and one for the monopod supporting my camera.

Strong sunlight is evident here with those short well-defined shadows and bright folds of wool.

Few autumn landscape scenes can be more alluring to the photographer than a woodland stream with waterfall.

Here in Tollymore, one of Northern Ireland's most scenic forest parks, these elements combine beautifully at the beginning of autumn as water falls between the stepping stones on the River Shimna under a canopy of bright green gently beginning to fade towards the reds, yellows and browns of autumn.

No wonder then that the producers of Game of Thrones, HBO, chose this location to film some of the famous TV show, Northern Ireland being home to most of the filming.

And no wonder it is a place that Panoramic Ireland visits often, when travel restarts why not join me at the famous forest park or along the coast of County Down close by.
