Belfast's Peace Walls

The International Wall and Peace Walls of Belfast

Belfast is a city that gets a lot of press, mostly negative, but in recent years with the four decades-long conflict known as The Troubles having finished the city is experiencing a lot of positive publicity with a rejuvenation of the Cathedral Quarter and the docklands where Titanic was built.

An experience on the Antrim Coast

The Antrim Coast of Northern Ireland is one of my favourite parts of Ireland to take workshops and for photography. Principally because this is where I was born and it is a place I remember from childhood and revisit often.

On this occasion I visited the Antrim Coast with Margherita and Clara from Sicily, the land of beautiful scenery including Mount Etna with its long coastline, Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean.

Dunluce Castle, Co. Antrim

Dunluce Cow, bovine landscapes of Co. Antrim

Cow of Dunluce

I took this image in 2006 in my native Northern Ireland. On a beautifully sunny June day with few tourists around. I often get asked if it is real, along with the header image on my Facebook page of this cow's fieldmate, both were taken on the same day and both are real rather than Photoshopped.

Game of Thrones - Antrim Tour

A Game of Thrones Tour of Antrim

Game of Thrones is one of the most popular tv shows ever made. Produced by HBO and based on books written by G.R.R. Martin, the epic fantasy tales have been primarily filmed in Northern Ireland, with the counties of Antrim and Down featured on the first page of the location scout's address book.

Being born and brought up in Ireland one is surrounded by references to the chief of the island's three patron saints, Saint Patrick. Travelling through counties Antrim, Down, Armagh there are references to this mysterious and legendary figure everywhere. The other two patron saints of Ireland are St. Brigid and St. Columba also known as Columcille - but don't get Columba confused with Columbanus.

The unmistakable sight of Slemish sitting lonely just off the Antrim plateau, looking like an upturned basin this mountain is comprised of the central remnant of an extinct volcano from the days when this part of Ireland was the centre of a large volcanic complex.

Northern Ireland's Antrim Coast

Waves crashing into the dark rocks of the Antrim Coast in Northern Ireland

A recent commission took me back to the spectacular Antrim Coast of Northern Ireland. It would be easy to divide the coast of Co. Antrim into two sections, the Causeway Coast running east-west along the top of Northern Ireland and the Antrim or Glens Coast running north-south along the east of the island.

Panoramic Ireland run photo tours in the Glens of Antrim and along the Causeway Coast.

Giant's Causeway Panorama, Northern Ireland

The Giant's Causeway at Blue Hour

Giant's Causeway Panorama by Panoramic Ireland

I was leading a photo tour last week at the Giant's Causeway, not far from where I grew up on the north coast of Antrim. Of course the weather wasn't wonderful, plenty of winds and rain made it quite tricky to get a shot.

This is Game of Thrones territory, the last four seasons have been filmed in and around the Antrim Coast.

Landscape photography was the order of the day at the UNESCO World Heritage Site and tripods weren't staying steady in the winds.

Slieve Gullion Panorama

Slive Gullion Panorama

Slieve Gullion is the highest mountain in County Armagh, Northern Ireland's smallest county. Situated in South Armagh the area is one characterised by rugged beauty.

The original print image is over 70 inches wide at print quality, that's 1.8 metres!

Antrim Coast at Sunrise

An early morning trip to Northern Ireland's famous Antrim Coast, my home county I was born and brought up not too far from the Giant's Causeway and Dark Hedges that are now enjoying a level of world-famousness that has taken most of us by surprise.
