An experience on the Antrim Coast

Written by

The Antrim Coast of Northern Ireland is one of my favourite parts of Ireland to take workshops and for photography. Principally because this is where I was born and it is a place I remember from childhood and revisit often.

On this occasion I visited the Antrim Coast with Margherita and Clara from Sicily, the land of beautiful scenery including Mount Etna with its long coastline, Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean.

We visited a small waterfall and woodland then followed the coast road through Glenarm and Carnlough to Cushendun where we spent some time photographing the coast. This part of the Irish coast is very beautiful with many geological features and enough of interest to the photographer, artist and those who like geology and the great outdoors.

As a Geography graduate I have a deep interest in the geophysical landscape and the geology of Northern Ireland tells a very interesting story. As an artist I like to use my knowledge of these landscapes.

The term photographer often suggests different things to many people of course, but the first photographers were both scientists and artists at the same time.

Then of course we took a visit to the Dark Hedges, which I have written about before. This avenue of beech trees have become super-popular in recent months because of the link with Game of Thrones, a successful TV series mainly filmed in this part of Northern Ireland. If you haven't seen it yet, this article on The Culture Trip is well worth reading.

Panoramic Ireland run private photography experiences in Northern Ireland, in Game of Thrones territory, Armagh, The Sperrins and Fermanagh.
