Beech Trees in Autumn

Beech trees fagus sylvatica are one of the finest trees to find in an Irish woodland.

This non-native species was introduced at some point in history, many centuries ago at least, and has become so widespread that it would appear to be a native Irish tree.

A lot has been written about scenic drives in Ireland, there is the Wild Atlantic Way as well as the Causeway Coastal Route to name two routes but the whole country is scenic.

For instance, County Kerry's Dingle Peninsula is a scenic drive worth making, read more here.

The Autumn Path, Ireland

Autumn colour from the leafy woodland path in Ireland.

Each year the Irish countryside brightens with the colour from deciduous leaves turning as seen here.

It's a time to enjoy photography, autumn is a photographer's favourite - is it yours?

The Woodland, Colourful in Autumn

The Irish woodlands are looking particularly colourful in autumn, deciduous trees getting ready for winter.

While not extensive, Irish woodlands and forests contain lots of character.

Dublin's Ha'penny Bridge is well known to locals and visitors alike, built in 1816 to span the River Liffey it has carried pedestrians for over 200 years.

See it above in Panoramic Ireland's 360-degree panoramic or photosphere.

Autumn Colour on Ireland's Lanes

Panoramic Ireland is no stranger to photographing autumnal scenes with the colour and majesty of nature as we head beyond the autumnal equinox, see here for more posts from Ireland's lovely countryside.

Here, in a rural part of the Emerald Isle, a narrow grass-covered laneway heads along the edge of green fields bounded by brightly coloured trees and shrubs bearing in this case the yellows of autumn.

A fine scene don't you think? Have you been to Ireland in autumn?

This week I have also been photographing some iconic bands, including 1980s megastars a-ha who have started their world tour in Ireland - see more here.

Autumn Reflections and Colour

It's a bright and colourful time of year, autumn. Sunny days have fine, clear light and the colour of autumn foliage makes any journey into the countryside colourful.

Six months since my chemotherapy finished it is exhilarating to be back in the countryside photographing the colour of another fine autumn.

An Irish Woodland in Autumn

We're back to that time of year again, summer has ended and winter is on its way. For now it's colourful autumn.

Here in a gently sloping woodland, a small stream cuts a narrow path soon becoming a river but for now it's all gentle and pretty.

And of course it's colourful.

The Irish Hare and RHD

The Irish hare Lepus timidus hibernicus is a distinct subspecies of the mountain hares found all over the northern latitudes of the northern hemisphere. All Lepus timidus except hibernicus change their coats of fur to white in winter to match with typical winter conditions of snow at such northerly latitudes. But due to Ireland's mild climate and lack of white snow covering the landscape, the local hares keep a brown coat all winter long - an evolutionary change that makes the Irish hare unique.

The Green Road

I have written about green roads and rural lanes here on Panoramic Ireland before. Here is one from a walk in the Irish countryside earlier this year, 2019: https://panoramicireland.com/blog-ireland-guide/irish-summer-green-rural-lane-trees-exploring

Here, stopping along the back roads of the Irish countryside - in the west we went exploring and photographed one of the most scenic lanes in the country.
