Today saw the western county of Mayo take on the country's capital, Dublin, in 2016's All-Ireland gaelic football final at Dublin's Croke Park.

Dublin Bus on Strike September 2016

It's happening again, earlier this year we had the Luas strike that impacted heavily on visitors to Dublin seeing the two separate lines of the light rail shutting down at weekends and key dates such as St. Patrick's Day and Easter.

This time it's the Dublin Bus drivers who are striking, already with two days of stoppages under their belts the drivers are also not working on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th September 2016. Friday 16th is also Culture Night which will see tens of thousands of people out in towns and cities around Ireland but in Dublin they won't be able to use the bus to get home.

Cloudy Sunrise on Dublin Bay

Sunrise on this morning's photography workshop on Dublin's beautiful bay.

The weather forecast was not favourable but was preferable to the following morning's forecast and other recent mornings where rain and heavily overcast conditions create conditions not of interest to the landscape photographer.

Crepuscular Rays in Dublin

Another evening in Dublin and another amazing sunset as crepuscular rays from the low sun spread out from behind dramatic clouds suspended over the River Liffey as it flows through the centre.

It seemed on this occasion that the evening was going to be overcast and boring, but as is often the case with evening weather the sun's rays burst through the clouds and blue sky became visible.

Swimming with Desmond

In the aftermath of Storm Desmond who swept across Ireland in the first week of December 2015 and despite warnings from infamous TV reporter Teresa Mannion these Irish men and women kept alive the brave daily tradition of swimming in the country's coastal waters year round.

Despite strong winds and heavy sea swells, the morning was bright and cheery. No sign of a clear sunrise for the photographer but plenty of soft sunlight that helped me to instruct my student during the early morning photography workshop close to Dublin on the Irish Sea.

Our morning's start was late as sunrise in Dublin in December is approx. 08:20, compared to an unsociable 04:55 in June.

Before Sunrise, Dublin Bay

After last night's unexpectedly colourful sunset in the west of Ireland, today's theme was the sunrise on the Irish Sea coast of Ireland, on Dublin Bay.

A Day in Dublin

Thinking about taking a swim?

It was a bit stormy on this occasion even for this man who swims often.

I chatted with him for some minutes as the sun made its way higher in the sky, the bold colours fading to daylight tones quickly. As it happens I had met him before and after our chat he left as I was packing away my camera equipment, the swell was too strong for a pleasant swim.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day 2015

Saint Patrick's Day in Ireland

Time flies by, another year has passed and it is now Saint Patrick's Day again, 2015 this time!

Panoramic Ireland will be on the streets of Ireland this year to photograph as always the interesting moments. Here are some musicians playing to an enthusiastic crowd just off Grafton Street in Dublin in 2014.

The Panoramic Ireland Review of 2014 in Images

I have started my review of 2014 in images over on another section of the site.

Last year saw me visit many counties, cover the Wild Atlantic Way and write articles on the Antrim Coast's Game of Thrones connection and street art in Dublin as well as Belfast's peace walls - now a focal point for community based art.

A Christmas Day Swim in the Irish Sea

Christmas Day, a time of big dinners and unwrapping presents.

Here in Ireland there is a popular tradition of taking to the water, the icy-cold waters of the Irish Sea, Atlantic Ocean or many inland lakes and rivers.
