Sunlight on the Stones, Giant's Causeway

There is no doubt that the Giant's Causeway is one of the most scenic places in Ireland and it definitely one of Panoramic Ireland's favourite places to photograph.

Here, some of the 40,000 basalt columns of the causeway receive the last sunshine of the day before the sun sets for the evening.

Crashing waves cover the lower rocks during a long exposure.

To learn how to photograph seascapes, long exposures like this join me, Panoramic Ireland, for a photography workshop on the famous Antrim Coast and Giant's Causeway all year round.

I have written about castles before, namely my exploration of Barrymore Castle in Castlelyons, and Cahir Castle in County Tipperary that recently played host to Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Adam Driver and Jodie Comer for the filming of Ridley Scott's The Last Duel.

Ireland is awash with castles but many are, unfortunately, barely more than a single stone.

This is a two part image, in the lower-middle incoming waves meld into bluey-green and white bands over the course of the exposure and to the bottom returning water ripples remain consistent, in the top half of the image slow-moving white and grey clouds barely move against the azure sky.

In long exposure photography we are looking to use movement in at least one part of the image, here that is in the bottom half more so than the top.

Landscape Photography Workshops in Ireland

Panoramic Ireland, that's me by the way - my name is Darren, create photography workshops and tours in Ireland.

My private and small group tours and workshops are designed to work with your schedule and your interests, to help improve your image making skills or to show you the best, mostly hidden, places in Ireland.

Because my tours are private, it can be a combination of all of the above.

Learn how to make better landscape images with me, a professional travel photographer who has worked with the biggest names in international publishing, photographed many of the world's biggest bands and has been exploring Ireland ever since (and before actually) graduating with a Bsc Hons in Geography.

From Fair Head to Mizen Head, the Antrim Coast to County Cork, Dublin to Galway - each and every corner of Ireland.

And of course please feel free to ask any questions.

I look forward to seeing you in Ireland with your camera in hand!

The Old Fence

An old fence runs into deep waters from the shore.

I stopped here after a photography tour to capture this blue, wave-filled scene and used the fence to add interest into the image.

Evening light on the lake, County Galway

After a manic few weeks that saw me meeting the President of Ireland, photographing some of the biggest artists around at Electric Picnic and leading many tours including a 10-day coastal odyssey along the coast of Ireland, my first visit back to what is one of my favourite locations allowed me to take some time and relax with golden light and calm conditions.
