Saint Patrick's Day in Ireland

Time flies by, another year has passed and it is now Saint Patrick's Day again, 2015 this time!

Panoramic Ireland will be on the streets of Ireland this year to photograph as always the interesting moments. Here are some musicians playing to an enthusiastic crowd just off Grafton Street in Dublin in 2014.

Being born and brought up in Ireland one is surrounded by references to the chief of the island's three patron saints, Saint Patrick. Travelling through counties Antrim, Down, Armagh there are references to this mysterious and legendary figure everywhere. The other two patron saints of Ireland are St. Brigid and St. Columba also known as Columcille - but don't get Columba confused with Columbanus.

The unmistakable sight of Slemish sitting lonely just off the Antrim plateau, looking like an upturned basin this mountain is comprised of the central remnant of an extinct volcano from the days when this part of Ireland was the centre of a large volcanic complex.

A Stormy Atlantic Ocean, February 2014, Connemara, Ireland

Stormy Atlantic Ocean 2014 Connemara, Ireland

Another day on the Wild Atlantic Way of Ireland's west coast, this time the day happens to be one of the stormiest in living memory in Ireland. With a tornado in Athleague, Co. Roscommon, almost 200,000 homes without power, 160km/h winds and trees falling on vehicles all over Ireland it was certainly an eventful day for some.

**Update** I have a space available for a private street photography afternoon in Dublin on Monday 25th of November 2024. The price is usually €215 but on this day only it is €135. To find out more use the Contact page or the email above**

I do practice street photography regularly, in Ireland and in Italy where I have spent some time photographing nuns in Assisi, the calli of Venice and the hill-top towns of Umbria. I do enjoy street photography, the interactions and looking for that fleeting image, to capture a moment in time is exciting.

Wreck of The Irish Trader

Irish Trader Shipwreck, Baltray

I have often led photography workshops to the beach at Baltray for one reason - the shipwreck of the Irish Trader seen here surrounded by the Irish Sea on a very windy day.

The ship was run aground here in 1974 during storms in the Irish Sea and it has remained on the flat sandy beach ever since.
