A favourite place to visit on any stay in Dublin is St. Stephen's Green in the centre of the city; lying close to Government Buildings and Grafton Street it is a favourite meeting place for Dubliners and a great place for strolling.
No matter what type of photography you prefer, St. Stephen's Green is perfect on a rainy or sunny day. Tree lined avenues around the edge with well kept flowerbeds, lounging locals and dabbling ducks in the centre all make great subjects for the lens.
A short history of St. Stephen's Green, not enough to send you asleep!
Formerly farmland, the area of St. Stephen's Green was built on by Dublin Corporation in the seventeenth century. It remained a private park, only open to residents of the Green and wealthy Dubliners until Baron Ardilaun, Arthur Guinness (great-grandson of the famous Arthur Guinness) sponsored a bill to open it to the public, and all the residents of Dublin, which it did in 1880.
Today it really is a lovely place to spend a few hours and many of my favourite images have been taken here. On stormy autumnal afternoons, sunny summer days or just grey days there is no place in Dublin like Saint Stephen's Green. Being so close to the city centre makes it a smart destination, visit a pub afterwards or grab a coffee before heading on.
