Sunset in the Mountains, with Snow - Ireland

At the end of that beautiful hike in the mountains, after the day looked to have finished early with a snow-storm darkening the sky, this is the reward of a bright and colourful sunset.

Looking out from the snow-filled mountainside towards the sun as it passed across the horizon, there was the sound of silence save for the sound of our shutters, a gentle breeze and the call of some crows.

Join me, Panoramic Ireland, for a private photography landscape tour in the magic of Ireland's mountains, snow or no snow and suitable for all levels. Honestly, if I can climb it then so can you.

Find out more and feel free to ask me any questions.

More February Snow, Ireland

The snow appears to be gone for the moment but while it lasted the landscapes of Ireland's mountains were transformed.

No doubt we will see more before the summer arrives.

Snow in Ireland, February 2018

I often get asked if it snow in Ireland or does the sun shine in winter in Ireland.

And on certain days it is possible to say yes to both.

This week has seen plenty of snow here in Ireland, and it has also seen lots of blue sky and sunshine - with all three on the same day so I can answer yes to both of the typical questions. Yes, it does snow in Ireland and yes, the sun does shine in winter.

Here, a scene from the mountains of Ireland from a photography expedition above the snowline into the white world of winter.

From an evening in Dublin, this short video features street scenes from around Ireland's capital city.

Two well-known pubs feature, The Ferryman and The Stag's Head, as does the River Liffey which was the main reason for our photographic adventure in the city.

On the photography tour we covered everything from long exposure architectural photography to street and documentary photography.

To join me, Panoramic Ireland, on a photography tour or workshop covering one photographic subject or many - contact me using the menu or see my Dublin page for more information. Private one-to-one tours start from €155.

A Frosty Start

Recent cold weather has brought clear conditions with bright blue skies and frosty mornings.

The hedgerows take on another form when frost covered and the mountains beckon, their ice-covered summits set against the bright blue sky can be almost blinding.

This is of course perfect for the landscape photographer in winter.

Panoramic Ireland's favourite images February 2017

February 2017 saw me photographing a lot of studio images for my site darrenmcloughlin.com but I did venture out into the countryside both on my own and while leading tours in Dublin, Wicklow and Kilkenny.

Snow made a return during February 2017 and crocus flowers were in full bloom. The coast of course was a perfect destination with stormy weather and beautiful winter light.

Have a look at the YouTube video here for the show.

Street Photography in Dublin

Dublin is a great city for street photography, the small size and relaxed attitude of its inhabitants coupled with small cobbled streets and alleyways makes for many opportunities to photograph people on the Irish capital's streets.

Join me, Panoramic Ireland, to photograph the streets of Dublin on one of my photography workshops throughout the year.

See panoramicireland.com/dublin for more or use the contact form to enquire.

Dublin Castle, Ireland

Yesterday's bright sunshine in Dublin did a lot to dispel the myth that Ireland is miserably cold and wet and dull in the winter.

Dublin Castle in winter sunshine, walking tour with camera

Many of our winter days are bright and sunny, often cold but don't let anyone put you off the idea of visiting and planning a visit to Dublin in winter, hotel rooms are cheaper, there are fewer tourists and we do have decent weather.

Ireland's Magic Waterfall, Reversey Falls

Ireland's famous waterfall the Reversey Falls, where water flows backwards up the fall is a natural phenomenon that still puzzles scientists.
