If so, keep an eye out for path closures at the stunning Wild Atlantic Way site. Currently, as of February 2025 only the paths around the visitor centre are open so it's impossible to walk from or to Doolin on the northern section of the trail at the moment and it's not possible to walk on the southern section of the trail to or from Hag's Head.

The surfers' path is still open on the northern section but not as far as the visitor centre.

With over 1.5 million visitors every year, the paths, which at times are close to the edge of the Atlantic, can be uneven and unfenced and have seen a number of unfortunate deaths in recent years.

To create new, safer sections of path the trails will be closed for most of this year, 2025 but with different sections open at different times.

The visitor centre remains open with viewpoints still accessible.

January 2022 has seen some big changes in Ireland compared with much of the past two years.

There are now no restrictions on availing of hospitality, travel and tourism in Ireland, visitors who have received Covid-19 vaccines can enter the country without a test, and those who are not can use a negative test to gain entry.

Once here, there are now no checks when dining in pubs and restaurants. Sporting events are going ahead and there are no checks to stay at hotels or other accommodation - this was the case throughout the pandemic.

Sensibly, masks are still required in shops and indoor public places.

As you may have already heard, July 19th will see a number of restrictions eased in regards to COVID / Coronavirus in Ireland.

The world's most restrictive lockdown will be no more, in time for the arrival of the Indian or Delta variant.

Travel into Ireland from overseas will be relaxed so if you are looking to find out more about travel to Ireland after Covid then look no further.

The Common Travel Area (Ireland and Britain) is separate to the EU Schengen rules, and travel from Britain will be eased to allow visitors to not have to go into quarantine. The hotels they use for mandatory hotel quarantine do little for the reputation of the country's tourism sector; no local would want to stay there and thankfully if you are visiting from Britain, the USA and Europe you won't have to from the middle of the month!
