Dublin's Street of Performance

Walking up or down Grafton Street can be difficult at times.

Anyone who traverses this street on a daily basis will know how busy it is at rush hour. It's traffic free but making headway past the oncoming commuters and tourists and passing by the huddled masses watching the various street performers can be a challenge.

You could almost imagine that all of the Irish contestants from Britain's Got Talent or the X-Factor are assembled here for a public performance some evenings! It's like a linear open air stage for bands and street performers from acrobats, jugglers and those guys that stand still to some of the best musicians that we have yet to hear.

But this is a street made for stopping. After tea or coffee in Bewley's - my favourite meeting place in the city, try watching the next big thing in the local music scene or just enjoying some street performance. Grafton Street is certainly the place in Dublin to view all of these.

Renovation works underway on Grafton Street

The street is currently undergoing some serious renovations to replace the old pink cobbles with grey flagstones and that makes the progress even more difficult. The noise of the workmen makes watching the street performers and bands almost unbearable in places. Pick the part of the street with no diggers or jack hammers tapping away.

On a sunny evening, with some entertaining entertainers performing take your time along Grafton Street, it's free to watch (except for tips) and something to do in Dublin that doesn't involve pubs!
