Orange and Blue, Calm Sunset

After a busy week I can now appreciate the crepuscles and with a rainy few days the sun finally made a brief appearance below the cloud base just before sunset in the west of Ireland.

The lower sky was illuminated with hues of orange and red while the top remained blue and evening-like both portions reflecting in the calm waters of the lake, windless and magical.

Just moments earlier heavy rain blanketed the landscape, and as I approached the edge of the lake my feet were standing in waterlogged grass, the summer this year having been so wet and dull that with early September's heavy rains across Ireland many rivers and lakes will be higher than usual.

A few brief captures with my camera and the sun was gone, still illuminating this portion of the sky, the countryside grew quieter and quieter and the drama slowly dissipated.

A walk back to base and some minutes editing the short evening's shoot was in order. Done.

It's now just before 21:00 and it is dark, the long summer evenings are beginning to go and it is noticable that the day length here in Ireland is shortening rapidly but the quality of sunsets in the west and north is getting better.
