It's Coming Back to Electric Picnic Time of Year

The summer is well and truly underway here in Ireland, only no-one told the weather. Cold, wet and lacking in sunshine, with high winds all making it seem autumnal more than summery.

July is nearly over and it's still possible to smell peat fires burning in the villages and towns of rural Ireland, people carry jackets, gloves and hats; sandals have been relegated to the foreign holiday packing list.

Yet there is something happening very soon that will lift the spirits of at least 40,000 of the country's residents; Electric Picnic - a three day festival of music and arts is taking place as usual this year at Stradbally in Co. Laois from 4th - 6th September. The end of the summer and the end of the festival season.

I attended Electric Picnic in 2014 photographing many of the artists and the atmosphere.

I can say with certainty that EP was the best festival I have been to, with a great feeling and plenty of action from the main stage to the comedy tent, the art dotted through the site and with a family-friendly campsite and dedicated children's section there is more of a relaxed atmosphere to the festival.

And the food is good too, plenty of Ireland's best food producers are on site serving everything from organic, locally sourced options (vegan, vegetarian and meat eaters) to burritos, some of the best pizza I've had and beyond.

This year's line-up features Irish and international acts both established and upcoming. Big names include Sam Smith, Florence and The Machine and Manic Street Preachers. The nostalgia quotient is provided by The Boomtown Rats.

Mutefish, a band mixing musical influences that performs often on the streets of Dublin including Grafton Street and Temple Bar drawing crowds will also take to the stage.
