Storm Doris on the way to Ireland

Atlantic storm Doris is due to strike the northern half of Ireland during the early hours of February 23rd 2017 when winds of up to 120 km/h are predicted for parts of the country and a status yellow weather warning in effect for all of Ireland and a status orange warning in effect for many counties.

As I write this post it is still quite calm and it got me thinking about this image from a few years ago from Ireland's Atlantic coast, part of the famous Wild Atlantic Way.

In the Forest with Camera

Forests contain some of the best landscape photography opportunities and Ireland's forests while not extensive, do contain many enticing scenes from moss-covered trees to bluebells in late spring.

Join me in one of Ireland's characterful woodlands for a day of landscape photography - for more use the contact page or send me an email.

The Giant's Causeway is Northern Ireland's UNESCO World Heritage Site and it makes for a fine photographic destination.

I have written about my native Antrim Coast on many occasions and I organise photography workshops here each year.

For more information about Panoramic Ireland's photography workshops on the Antrim Coast click here.

Ireland makes for a fantastic photographic destination all year round. In the winter as you might not have imagined the landscape is not covered in snow although soft, white landscapes do occur - most notably in the mountains.

The winter also has magical light, with scenes just like this of the sea, mountains and low light.

I run photographic tours and workshops in Ireland from Dublin to Belfast to Antrim to Dingle.

For more information please contact me.

Steps into the sea

Steps into the sea, my favourite subject matter is the coast and, Ireland, being a small island makes access to the coast easy.

Torc Waterfall in Winter, County Kerry

Surely one of Ireland's most famous waterfalls, Torc in County Kerry is a scenic set of falls amidst the lush landscape of southwest Ireland.

Situated ten kilometres from Killarney on the famous scenic drive of the Ring of Kerry, Torc has been a tourist attraction for centuries.

Blue Hour on the Antrim Coast

On a recent photography tour along Northern Ireland's famous Antrim Coast we finished up after a long day of photography.

On the way to get something to eat after a day's adventure we stopped to capture a scene of the last light coming in off the Atlantic.

The Last Lanes of 2016

Walking along the laneway in winter, not as enjoyable as in spring when the green leafy colour lines the hedgerows and fresh scents fill the air, but still on a cold winter's day the reminders of last season's life are there.

On the Irish Sea - Dolphin and Wind Turbines

A Peaceful Moment

On a recent journey on the Irish Sea, having left port we passed a windfarm with many turbines and on the calm surface of the sea a dolphin gently breaks.

Landscape photography is not always about epic hikes and early starts, the beauty of the landscape is often right there in front of us at any time of day.

Newgrange, the greatest of Ireland's ancient monuments is aligned with the winter solstice on December 21st.

For much of the past 5,200 years on the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, the ancient people of Ireland have gathered inside the mound at Newgrange where the rising sun's rays illuminated the 19m-long passageway and burial chamber decorated with stone carvings. The UNESCO World Heritage Site measures 76m in diameter and covers over an acre, it is also older than Stonehenge and the oldest of the Egyptian pyramids by 600 years.
