A high-angle, panoramic aerial scene from the west of Ireland in October, capturing a colourful autumn sunset. The view looks over a vast lough (lake) dotted with numerous small, dark islands. A heavy, dark grey sky dominates, but breaks dramatically at the horizon, allowing a brilliant burst of golden, orange, and yellow light to shine through. This sunset creates a bright, shimmering reflection that stretches across the wide, dark blue water. In the foreground and distance, the lough is bordered by rolling green fields and autumn landscapes. By Panoramic Ireland panoramicireland.com

Autumn in Ireland: A Time of Colour and Drama

Some people may think that Ireland and other northerly European countries are dark and dank in autumn and winter but this time of year, as well as having lots of colour in the woodlands, fields and hedgerows of the countryside, brings stormy skies and colourful clouds.

Here, one of Panoramic Ireland's favourite scenes from the west of Ireland as the sun begins to set after a warm October day, the colours in the sky and reflected on the lake signalling good weather to continue for a day or so at least.

Autumn is still continuing so if you are visiting Ireland here in this colourful month, the rest of autumn or the winter do check out Panoramic Ireland's photography workshops that operate year round all over Ireland from the Antrim Coast to Dingle and the Copper Coast. While the west of Ireland offers stunning landscape photography opportunities like the scene above, we also offer urban photography tours in Dublin.

Great photo walk with gifted photographer
Dublin Urban Photography Tour • Oct 2025 • Solo

Spent a great half day with Darren exploring Dublin in the wind and rain. He was a great guide, giving plenty of ideas for approaching photos, working with reflections and finding some good spots for street photography. We started at 8:00 at my hotel and walked through docklands, along the Liffey, Trinity, Temple Bar and City Hall and then looped back. He was very patient and good company.
