From the photographer's point of view there is plenty of interest- the lakes, hills, woods, streams and monastic remains all contribute to the atmosphere and at the right time of day it is a very tranquil place to be.
There are many places in Ireland, famous or not, that provide excellent locations for the photographer but some have attained such a level of popularity that to photograph them like this, careful planning is essential to make sure that the conditions will be right. I have been to Glendalough on numerous occasions over the years but I always find that it is when the weather is a little grey that the best images can be achieved, they are more atmospheric just like this one - an autumnal image of monastic ruins and ancient stone crosses surrounded by woodland with a serene feel to it.
I think that tomorrow, you will find me here, and you can read about another trip I took to Glendalough in 2013 on a day that I should have been somewhere else.
