As soon as I had set up my tripod heavy rain came in from the north and the sky was clouded out, I sheltered the camera and waited it out. Behind the rain came some clear skies under the thick layer of cloud.
With nothing but the sound of gentle but persistent waves lapping at the limestoney shore, the fluttering of some wildfowl wings and the lowing of cattle on a nearby island, I was alone and enjoying the quiet solitude of my surroundings. It was quiet enough to hear an otter breaking a Twix bar in half but on this occasion that didn't happen. I have on occasion seen otters playing in the lake waters just off these rocks and lying on their backs to eat. These moments are always viewed from afar, however, as otters have a very keen sense of smell and hearing, disappearing at the first sign of disturbance. Except for this otter on Ireland's River Suir, happy enough to fish in sight of viewers.
Anyway, there were no otters on this occasion, but not a bad image of the post-sunset sky and an enjoyable hour on the lake shore.
