Private Skye / Scotland Photography Workshop
A private, guided photography day on the Isle of Skye, led by professional photographer Darren McLoughlin. Skye has some of Scotland’s most dramatic landscapes: the pinnacles of the Quiraing, the long escarpment of the Trotternish Ridge, sea cliffs, and light that changes within minutes. The day is paced around you. We stay as long as a scene deserves and move on when the light does.
Who it’s for
Landscape and travel photographers who want to improve their work in demanding conditions, and visitors who want to see Skye through a camera rather than from a car park. All skill levels are welcome — from mobile photography to large-format film. Any camera is fine.
What you’ll photograph
The Quiraing and the Trotternish Ridge: ridgelines, layered hills and big skies.
Coastal and cliff locations on Trotternish and elsewhere on Skye, chosen for the day’s light and conditions.
Weather and light: how to work with cloud, mist and low sun, and how to choose a composition when conditions change quickly.
Sunrise or sunset starts are available depending on season and your preference.
Exact locations are chosen on the day from the forecast and the light, so you shoot the best of what Skye is offering rather than following a fixed route. Days can also take in other Scottish locations such as Eilean Donan and Loch Awe when that suits your plans.
What to expect
Eight hours with Darren, from a start time we agree when you book.
Help with composition, exposure, filters and working in wind and rain, adapted to your level.
Time to shoot without rushing.
We meet in Portree, at Eilean Donan, or another agreed point, then travel together for the day. Bring what you need for lunch — we can stop when it suits the light and the schedule.
Practical details
Group: private workshop for you and up to one partner, for one price of £1,650.
Duration: 8 hours.
Weather: Skye weather changes fast. Bring waterproofs, sturdy footwear and layers. If conditions are poor, we’ll adapt the day — different locations, sheltered shooting, editing and review work — or reschedule within reason.
Scotland beyond Skye: the core day is on Skye; workshops can also run at or include other Scottish locations such as Eilean Donan and Loch Awe when you want that focus.
