Sunshine, Rainbows, and Photography in Ireland
A lot of photographers who visit Ireland and book a Panoramic Ireland photography tour to spend time with me in Dublin, Galway, or Antrim are often surprised by how good the weather can be on this small Atlantic island.
Many myths abound about rain and dark, dank weather, but in reality Ireland sees plenty of sunshine. And of course, stormy days often give the opportunity to capture one of the most spectacular meteorological phenomena: rainbows — and in this case, double rainbows.
Sunshine in Ireland
Ireland sees between 1,100 and 1,600 sunshine hours per year, similar to England, Wales, Scotland, Iceland, and Norway. See more details from Met Éireann here: Sunshine and Solar Radiation.
Here, during a break in the cloud and squally rain, a fine double rainbow arcs above the lush, green, field-filled landscapes of the west of Ireland and the stormy lake. In reality, you only need moments of sunshine to capture a rainbow.
